The mission of New City EATS is to provide food in an affirming environment through a ministry that is relational, ministers to the whole body, enriches the lives of others, empowers individuals and reinforces the comfort of God.
We seek to fulfill this Mission through a low-income food network. Our food is purchased from the food bank with donations from church members and supporters, and our group meets every other Thursday at 6PM in the fellowship hall.
Members pay $3 at each meeting to be part of the group. This money is not associated with food purchase from the food bank. These dues are used for educational and communal activities. For example, cooking demonstrations, meals purchased and provided by the members, parties, crafts and art supplies for kids activities. Members are asked to help with group tasks such as counting and sorting food, leading meetings, and cleaning the meeting room. At the end of each meeting, members take home boxes of healthy, balanced food. New City EATS provides approximately 25% of the total food needs of a family each month. In order to qualify to become a member, members must live in the East Lake neighborhood, have their own transportation to get to and from the church, commit to attending meetings regularly, and meet income eligibility requirements.
