Panel Discussion: Refugees & Immigrants - Outlook & Hope for 2018 and Beyond

Pastor Pickett will be on the panel for this discussion:

Chattanooga State’s Paralegal Program, and the International Law Section of the Tennessee Bar Association are sponsoring a free invite-only seminar “Refugees & Immigrants—Outlook & Hope for 2018 & Beyond” to be held on Thursday, October 26, 2017, from 3:00 PM – 4:30 PM at Chattanooga State, “Mobile Classroom”—Library, Chattanooga, TN.  Chattanooga State’s Global Scholars Honors Program is also hosting an empowering exhibition “Love Without Borders” featuring artwork from refugee children living in Greece from 10 am thru 6:00 p.m. on October 26th.   Attendees of the seminar will have the opportunity to have direct interactive discussions with the speakers, and will be able to explore this powerful exhibition.  The speakers on the panel include community leaders in the areas of refugee & immigrant rights advocacy law and policy. The seminar will provide an overview of the global & U.S. refugee & immigrant rights & advocacy landscape as it concerns Tennessee for 2018 & beyond, and both policy & legal views of the ever-changing global view(s) of refugees and immigrants. The panel discussion will last from 3:00 p.m. thru 4:00 p.m., and then followed with a FAQ session for attendees—along with a light reception of beverage & desserts.  

Congregational Meeting and Potluck - Sunday, October 29, 2017

We will have a potluck lunch IMMEDIATELY following the 11:00 service.  We will eat during our meeting.  Please bring food according to the first letter of your last name: A-H brings a main dish, I-M brings a side or two, N-Z brings dessert.  NCEL will provide drinks, plates & eating utensils.  Make plans now to attend.  This will be the time to elect deacon, deaconess, and elder candidates.

Reformation Sunday Service

On Sunday, October 29 Covenant Presbyterian Church will host a Tennessee Valley Presbytery Reformation Sunday Service from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m.  Special Speaker will be Archbishop of Uganda- Henry Luke Orombi. Covenant  Presbyterian Church is located at 8451 East Brainerd Road, Chattanooga, TN37421

Women's Gathering

NCEL is launching a women’s ministry in January but until then we would like to spend time together in prayer and  fellowship. This week Nancy Holland will be teaching starting at 10:10. We meet in room #206 at the top of the stairs to the right.

ESL (English as a Second Language)

ESL classes meet each Sunday from 3:45-5:45 pm. Would you please pray diligently with Eunice to see if God is calling you to serve Him by helping out this fall in this great ministry? We need people to help show the love of God in words and in deeds. We need volunteers to help with teaching the adults and to help with the Kids club. Please contact latinos@newcityeastlake.com.

ELECT - East Lake Every Child Taught

ELECT, our after-school tutoring program, is looking for tutors to come and assist with homework and enrichment for this coming semester! Monday-Thursday from 3-5pm! Please come share your lives with our community kids!  We would also love your prayers as we transition to new leadership. East Lake Montessori Work Day

ELM is having a work day on Friday, October 20th, from 4-7 pm. Dinner & childcare provided. TO DO: Painting, cleaning, finishing up the bathroom, painting lessons, building a garden box and steam cleaning the carpets in the toddler room. Supplies needed: flush light fixture, light switch plate. 2 step wooden step stool, bathroom mirror, wood for garden box. Disaster Relief

NCEL Diaconate is collecting disaster relief supplies to send to hurricane victims in Texas and Florida. Information is available each Sunday morning in the Gallery.   All questions should be directed jim.terney@gmail.com or text Jim at 423.322.8477.  Thanks in advance!

Financial Update

For September the contributions were: Undesignated $26,676; Capital Campaign $1,077 and other designated $2,515. The budgeted amounts for each category respectively are $26,417; $2,500; and $1,602. We are grateful to have received an additional $10,000 from an anonymous donor. Praise God! The leadership of the church thanks you for your continued generous support of the Lord’s work at NCEL.
