Update: Hispanic Leadership Initiative

Queridos amigos y familia,

I have a few things I’d like to update you on… firstly that my youth ministry proposal has been approved at New City East Lake! I received news about it just this last Wednesday. I am very excited that our session has approved it and that I have some friends interested in involvement. Although I have a team behind me, I am planning on seeking more leaders before launching (I have a tentative soft launch planned for the month of May and a hard launch following VBS in August). I just ask that you please join me and a few others as we meet to pray that the Lord raise up more workers for the harvest.  A personal prayer is that I would have great expectation and faith in God to work through this ministry to bring youth to Himself.

If the month of March had one particular theme for me, it was this: the spiritual gifts are given for the edification of the body. Although our women’s retreat was great, I actually enjoyed the meetings with one particular friend before the retreat. Our meetings were to work on her testimony for the retreat as she asked for my help in preparation. She wanted to share in her heart language, Spanish, and I would translate for our English-hearing ladies. Her friendship during my time at New City East Lake has been such a blessing. Not only have I enjoyed seeing the Lord continue to heal her past wounds, but also to see her fresh prayers, asking God to use her for His Kingdom.

Others and I have been praying for God to develop her into a leader… and the morning before the retreat, this was the very thing she prayed for. She has a gentle and unassuming disposition, perhaps a redeemed outcome of her abuse-ridden past. Her reliance on the Lord, her steadfast faith in Him, her wisdom and her discernment forged by trials… these are the qualities God has given her. I believe the Lord is developing her for strengthening His Kingdom and I hope to do all I can to serve her during my time at East Lake to help her realize this desire.

Please continue to pray for me as I start this new season of ministry at New City East Lake. I really appreciate you guys and all that you do for me.

Con Gracia y Paz,

Evangelina Castillo
