Nursery

Nursery meets during the sermon portion of our Sunday morning worship services. It is available for children from birth - kindergarten.

All children attend the beginning part of our worship service. Following the offering parents will be given an opportunity to bring their children upstairs and leave them in the nursery for the remaining part of the service.

Please follow the drop-off and pick-up procedure posted on the wall outside of the nurseries.

Why Nursery?

The nursery first offers parents an opportunity to participate in class and in worship without the distraction of their young children, but we do not feel that is the exclusive goal of our nursery.

The nursery offers an opportunity for us to support parents in training their children. It gives children an opportunity to interact with other children, to be loved by and trained by other believing adults in our congregation, and offers another venue for them to be introduced to God’s Word and the story of salvation in an age-appropriate setting.

The children remain with their family for the beginning of the Sunday morning worship because we feel it is important for them to see and be part of the corporate worship of God with their family and with the body of Christ.

We do, however, understand that it is difficult for many young children to sit quietly for 1 or 2 hours. That is why we offer a nursery where they will be able to move around and play for part of the worship time. As the age of the child increases the instruction time where the story of the gospel will be introduced and age-appropriate activities also increase.

ARE ALL CHILDREN EXPECTED TO BE IN NURSERY?

We understand that placing your child in the nursery is a personal decision that should be made by the parents of the child. Any parents who choose to keep their children with the through the entire worship service are welcome to do so.

At New City we are accustomed to noises and distractions that come from having young children in the service, but we do ask that parents who choose to keep their children in the service be aware and considerate of other adults. If a child becomes too much of a distraction at any given time the parent is welcome to come and stay with their children in the nursery if they like.

HOW DO WE STAFF THE NURSERY?

It has long been a New City tradition for all members and regular attenders to take turns serving in our nursery. We understand that there are some extenuating circumstances that may keep someone from being able to serve in this way. If that is the case, we ask those members to please let the nursery coordinator know and we will remove their name from our list.

The volunteer list is posted on our website, in our newsletters and bulletins and is shown on the projection screen each week.

We as the church body have a responsibility to the children of our members. When a child is baptized in our church we make a vow to be part of nurturing that child in Christ.

Do you as a congregation
undertake the responsibility of helping the parents
in the Christian nurture of this child
and to surround this child with a testimony that Jesus Christ is the living and true God?

The church nursery is one place we are all given the opportunity to fulfill this vow in a very tangible way.
