EXPECTATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES FOR SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHERS


- Be well prepared to teach each week by reading and studying your lesson and collecting necessary supplies ahead of class
- Be in the classroom at least five minutes before class begins and remain until the last child has been picked up by a responsible adult
- Prepare fun and exciting lessons that encourage our children to grow in their knowledge and love of our Savior Jesus Christ
- Communicate with the Sunday School coordinator and find a substitute if you are unable to teach on the week you have been assigned
- Maintain a safe environment for our children during class
- Make sure the class room is clean and in order before leaving
- Report any “incidents” to the Sunday School coordinator before going home
- Pray for the children in our program
- Develop relationships with our children and their parents
- Model a godly life before our children



Sample Schedule for younger classes:
-Offer a warm welcome as children arrive
-Have a simple activity ready for them to work on as they arrive (coloring sheet, playdough,
etc. (5-10 min)
-Pray together before beginning the lesson (share hurts, needs, worries etc… ,) (5-10 min)
-Give the lesson (10-15 min)
-Follow-up/application activity (5-10 min)
-Bible memory time (5 min)
-Fellowship/Play time until parents arrive

Sample Schedule for older classes:
-Offer a warm welcome as children arrive
-Encourage children to learn about each other with a fun “get – to – know – you” type
activity (5-10 min)
-Pray together before beginning the lesson (share hurts, needs, worries etc… , maybe even
keep a journal together to remember them and to see how the Lord is answering your
prayers) (5-10 min)
-Give the lesson (20 min)
-Follow-up/application activity (5-10 min)
-Bible memory time (5 min)
-Fellowship time until parents arrive
