Why Sunday School?

In Sunday School we hope to develop relationships with children and fill their hearts with the Word of God and the knowledge of his love for them.

The first goal of Children’s Sunday School is to fill children’s hearts with the word of God. We want the people, the stories, the promises, and the laws of the Bible to become familiar to them. We want them to know what the Bible says. It is our prayer that they will learn to love the Bible and understand that it is God’s Word, written for them so that they can know him and his story of salvation.

My son, keep my words
and store up my commands within you.
Keep my commands and you will live;
guard my teachings as the apple of your eye.
Bind them on your fingers;
write them on the tablet of your heart.
Proverbs 7:1-3
________________

I have hidden your word in my heart

that I might not sin against you.

Your word is a lamp to my feet
and a light for my path.
Psalm 119: 11, 105

The second goal of Sunday School is to equip children to live according to the word of God. It is our prayer that through the study of the Bible the Lord would call children to himself. We pray they would desire to love him and follow his commands. We want to build a foundation of biblical knowledge and understanding that will guide them through life and call them to service in the Kingdom of God.

 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice
is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.
Matthew 7:24

The third goal of Sunday School is to develop a sense of community with our children. We want to find ways to encourage the children in our classes to connect with each other and with the adults in our church. They come from many different places and may not automatically find connections. Those need to be developed and built. It is an important aspect of being part of the body of Christ.
