Search Committee Update!
Dear New City East Lake,
We are humbled and honored to have been elected to serve our church family as we seek who God has in store to lead us in the next phase of our church’s journey. We covet your prayers as we meet together, that we would have grace and patience with each other as we work as a team. We ask for your prayers for wisdom, as we read applications submitted by potential candidates, that we would have the Holy Spirit with us to discern which candidate can best serve our church as we carry out our goals as a church. We want to find a candidate to lead us as we carry out our mission: “To be a gospel-centered church in the East Lake community, representing God’s kingdom through reconciliation, justice and mercy, as taught by our Lord Jesus Christ in the Scriptures.” Thank you for entrusting us with this precious task!
In our first meeting, we nominated several different people to serve in various roles for the duration of our work.
- Jose Ocando - Chairman
- Katelyn Newsome - Vice-Chairwoman
- Sarah Ward - Secretary
- Al Herweyer - Accountant
- Jim Terney - Logistics
Additionally, we made some decisions to chart our course and have prepared for you all a (hopeful) projected timeline for our search. Like our last search, we are bound by some of the dates of our presbytery, specifically when they hold their stated meetings and examine candidates for transfer of ordination. While we plan our steps, we hold these dates loosely, trusting the Lord to lead and guide our paths and bring us a new senior pastor in HIS timing. We will continue to update the church as to where we are in this timeline and how we are progressing through the process.
- May 15, 2019 - cutoff date for new applications
- July, 2019 - congregational meeting to call a candidate
- August 12, 2019 - candidate paperwork due to Tennessee Valley Presbytery
- September 9, 2019 - TEC (Theological Examination Committee) Meeting
- October 15, 2019 - Tennessee Valley Presbytery Meeting
- January 1, 2020 - start date of new senior pastor
Lastly, we are so thankful for the hard work that the initial pastoral search committee put into compiling an excellent job description and candidate packet. This has sped up our process as a committee in that we have already been able to post an updated job description on various job boards and on our website. Please feel free to direct anyone you think might be interested or invested in this search to our website, or to reach out to us directly at email@example.com.
We are grateful for your prayers, care, and fellowship in this season of transition. To God be the Glory!
